The Moravian Historical Society Museum, special exhibitions, and Museum Store are located in the historic Whitefield House (1740–1743) and Gray Cottage (1740), the oldest surviving Moravian structure in North America. Learn about the significant contributions Moravians made to music, art, education and culture in early America.

 

The Museum features an outstanding collection of objects connected to the establishment of the 18th-century Pennsylvania settlements of Nazareth and Bethlehem. Highlights include:

• The first known piano made in America

• Oil paintings by John Valentine Haidt (1700–1780)

• The earliest-known violin made in the American Colonies, made by John Antes

• A rare 18th-century rifle made by Andreas Albrecht at the Moravian settlement of Christian's Spring

 

The Moravian Historical Society is located on the historic Ephrata Tract—the oldest Moravian site in North America.

The Moravian Historical Society Museum Gift Store and its permanent and changing exhibitions are open seven days a week from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. (except on major holidays).

Museum Admission

Admission includes a docent-led guided Museum Tour and access to special exhibitions.

• Seniors (65+): $6

• Children (Under 5): Free

The Moravian Historical Society is committed to providing access to everyone in our community. We are a proud member of “Museums for All” and provide free admission to those receiving food assistance (SNAP benefits). This benefit applies to every member of the household.

 

We are also a Blue Star Museum, offering free admission to the nation’s active-duty military personnel and their families through a partnership between the National Endowment for the Arts and Blue Star Families.

Accessibility

The special exhibition galleries and gift shop are located on the first floors of our historic buildings and are accessible by an entryway ramp. The museum galleries are on the second floor, which is accessible only by stairs. We do not have air conditioning.

Walking Tours and Group Tours
