Community, jazz, and big bands join with the sounds of guitars, harp and oboe in this year's "Concerts on the Green," the popular series of outdoor concerts in Nazareth which enters its fifth season.
The series is presented by the Moravian Historical Society and Moravian Hall Square Retirement Community.
Opening the season on Tuesday is the 40-piece Nazareth Community Band under the direction of Ralph Brodt III. The band will be preceded by jazz bands from Nazareth Area Middle School and the Nazareth Area High School, both directed by William Boandl. The concert will be held on the lawn of the Whitefield House.
On June 16, the concert features the Rob Stoneback Big Band, a well known Bethlehem-based ensemble. Opening the concert is local performer Dave Fry. The concert will take place in the Pleasure Gardens of Moravian Hall Square Retirement Community.
The final concert on July 21 highlights jazz with "Tim and Elise," an improvisational jazz vocalist and 7-string guitarist. The opening act is Sue Moll on the harp and Tom Heinze on oboe. They will perform on the Whitefield House lawn.
All concerts are free. Grounds open at 6 p.m. Opening entertainment begins at 6:15 p.m. followed by the featured performer at 7 p.m.
In case of inclement weather, the concert will take place at the Schoeneck Moravian Church Fellowship Hall.
Guests should bring a blanket or chair and are encouraged to bring a picnic supper to enjoy while listening to the music.
Easton's Hugh Moore park is the setting for the 20th annual Canal Festival to be held 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 28.
