VESPER MEETING SET BY MORAVIAN SOCIETY FYI

Morning Call - Allentown, Pa. Author: The Morning Call

A paper on "Joshua Jr., Moravian Indian Musician" will highlight the 131st annual vesper meeting of the Moravian Historical Society at noon Oct. 13 in the Nazareth Moravian Church.

The vesper will be preceded by the annual business meeting at 10 a.m. on the second floor of the Whitefield House, Nazareth, when officers will be elected.

Presenting this year's paper will be Dr. Lawrence W. Hartzell, associate professor of music theory at the Conservatory of Music of Baldwin-Wallace College, Berea, Ohio.

He is the co-author, with Stanley U. Kaufman, of "Moravians in Ohio," a book to be published by The German Culture Museum of Walnut Creek, Ohio. He is the author of a book published this year, "Ohio Moravian Music."

Hartzell, who has been awarded two Reeves Foundation grants for research and publication of his book on Ohio Moravian music, is listed in Who's Who in American Music and in The International Who's Who in Music.

The board has acknowledged receipt of various acquisitions in the past year, including an 18th century Moravian walnut wing chair and a 1928 officer's uniform from the former Nazareth Hall Military Academy. A number of maps and paintings, many of them relating to early Nazareth, have been restored.

Priorities have been set for the conservation of many more 18th and 19th century maps in the society's collection, which will cost in excess of $21,000.
