The Moravian Historical Society has a special rooftop in mind for area residents who would like to play Santa a little late by "adopting a shingle" for the Gray Cottage.
The society recently commissioned a new roof for the cottage, on the Ephrata Tract in Nazareth. The 252-year-old cottage is the oldest surviving Moravian building in North America.
After research, 3,500 authentically designed shingles were crafted by Redline and Redline Woodworking, Lehigh Township (Northampton County).
The roof work has been completed, and a dedication and open house will take place in spring.
Meanwhile, shingles may be given as gifts or memorials for $10 each.
Names of donors responding by Jan. 31 will be inscribed on a shingle.
